The new CCGI clinical practice guideline on spinal manipulative therapy and other conservative treatments for the treatment of low back pain is now in press in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (Bussières et al, in press).

The findings are in line with other recently published guidelines suggesting that non-pharmacological therapies including spinal manipulative therapy should be the first line of treatment for acute and chronic low back pain.

The authors concluded that a multimodal approach including spinal manipulative therapy, other commonly used active interventions, self-management advice, and exercise is an effective treatment strategy for acute and chronic back pain, with or without leg pain.
