April 28,
Toronto, ON
– Ontario Chiropractic Association (OCA) vice president, Dr. David Brunarski,
has recently become the first practicing chiropractor to be elected to the Canadian
Spine Society (CSS).

At their
annual general meeting in Gatineau,
Quebec in March 2009, the general
membership of the CSS – a collaborative organization with a mission to enhance excellence
in spinal research, patient care and education – accepted Brunarski’s
nomination for membership. The nomination was later ratified by the society’s
executive committee.

Brunarski
is one of only seven non-surgeon members within the CSS.

Brunarski
hopes that his membership in the CSS will help foster new interprofessional
relationships that will enhance the role of chiropractic in health care.

CSS past
president, Dr. Daryl Fourney, and executive director Dr. Hamilton Hall noted
that they were interested in furthering collaboration with chiropractic, in
order to support non-operative and multidisciplinary treatment in the area of
spinal health care.
