Sept. 16, 2013 — The Standing Committee on Health, Social Development and Seniors of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island is commencing its work on facilitating a province-wide discussion on addictions to prescription drugs.

"Abuse of prescription drugs is a growing problem," said Bush
Dumville, chair of the committee. "The resulting addictions are
devastating to Islanders and their families. This is something that
concerns everyone."

The committee is soliciting input from
members of the public and interested stakeholder groups by mail, fax, a
toll-free telephone number, email and a web-based comment form. In
addition, a series of public hearings across the province will take
place in September and October to hear personally from those affected by
or involved with this issue.

The schedule for these meetings
will be published in PEI newspapers and will appear on the website of
the Legislative Assembly once it has been established.
